The old idler hub's worn out and you're tired of all the play in your wheel. You pull it off, slide the new one on, and everything fits like it should. Bearings are packed and you're rolling straight without a second thought.
The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.
On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)
To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)
Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

Hi, everyone. Steve here with etrailer.com. Today we're looking together at our Terran Axle Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 3,500 pound axles, and it's a five on four and a half inch lug pattern. So folks, whenever we talk about lug patterns, that five on four and a half, whenever it's an odd number lug pattern, you wanna make sure you're measured from the center of one stud, directly across and in between those adjacent two studs. And that's where you're gonna get that four and a half inch measurement. So please make sure you're double checking your measurements before you're ordering the hubs to be sure you're getting the right ones the first time.
And you can always reach out to us if you have any questions. Now, this again, is a complete hub assembly for replacement. You're gonna have the dust cap with plug. You're gonna have the outer bearing. You need to make sure you grease that up before you insert it, and then put your cap on.
And then, of course, you have your lug nuts to go with the studs. And the back bearing, the inner bearing and seal are already installed and pre-greased. So that's gonna make a smooth operation a quick repair for you. I like to personally keep one in my toolbox on my trailer. That way if I ever have a breakdown on the road or something, I'm ready to get right back up on the road with no problems, or at least another bearing kit or something like that.
So it's a good thing to have an extra one of as well, just for the what if factor. Now again, this is a five and four and a half inch bolt pattern. That works with a lot of mid-size trailers. A 3,500 pound Dexter EZ Lube and etrailer Easy Grease trailer axle would be a great application for this. And the weight capacity is about 1,750 pounds per hub.
So again, this is designed for a 3,500 pound axle that's not actually carrying that much weight. The lug studs are a half inch. And of course, you have your lug nuts as well. So again, folks, a great option if you're replacing your idler hub or if you just wanna have a spare like myself for the what if factor. That will wrap it up for our quick look together. As I said before, reach out to us if you have questions or concerns or comments. We'd love to hear back from you. Have a good one.
